TCW THEORY GYMNASTICS SERIES

Theory Gymnastics is the most creative and comprehensive theory curriculum available and the perfect companion to every method. By combining hilariously funny games with their creative books, the Three Cranky Women (TCW Resources) have elevated music theory from the boring must-do to the I cant wait to do! Whether a practice page or a brain-teasingly difficult puzzle page, the variety of activities requires students to repeatedly use and apply each theory concept in new and different ways. Theory Gymnastics has been used with overwhelming success to prepare students for state and national theory and ear-training exams throughout the United States.


First choose one of two books based on the students age: Level A Brillante (ages 4-7) or Animato (ages 8-11).


Concepts in Level A include the music alphabet, the grand staff, steps and skips on the keyboard and staff, rhythm up to eighth note pairs, five-finger patterns, I chords, and more! Choosing the right book ensures these concepts are presented through age-appropriate artwork, verbiage, and activities. Upon completion of Brillante, young students who would benefit from review can repeat Level A with Animato or move straight into Level B.


Concepts in Level B include notes on the grand staff, intervals on the staff and keyboard, rhythm up to dotted quarter with eighth, half steps and whole steps, five-finger patterns, I chords on the staff and keyboard, and more. Spirito roughly correlates with levels 2 3 of most popular piano methods.


Concepts in Level C include the introduction of meter, order of sharps and flats, key signatures B, F, C, G, D, A, major and minor five-finger patterns and I chords on the staff, rhythmic dictation, composition, and more.
